Ink Wave Sketch

The very first paintings I made now live in my portfolio under the slightly humbler name “sketches.”
I started working with Chinese ink and large brushes around 2018. I was deeply fascinated by Japanese action calligraphy, which naturally found its way into my painting language. At the beginning, I imitated actual Japanese kanji characters – but over time, the characters slowly dissolved into more abstract drawings, gestures, strokes, and lines.
