Continuum

The Continuum series was created as my final project during an internship at the Painting 3 studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno. One small complication appeared right at the start: finding a large, perfectly round surface to paint on. So I solved it the practical way – I simply ordered round tables and used them as painting supports. Luckily, they came with a beautifully smooth white surface, so no extra preparation was needed.

Visually, the paintings live somewhere between the darkness of outer space and the glow of cities at night. Music plays an essential role in my process, and artists such as Klaus Schulze, The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (album Anthropomorphic), and occasionally ambient techno form a kind of unofficial soundtrack for the series.

The works draw on cyberpunk aesthetics and on Japanese, American, and German visual influences.

I apply the paint in large but carefully controlled gestures, building up layers that give the surface a subtle, almost sculptural quality.
