1nd Wave Sketch
This first color series came quite soon after my experiments with black ink. I loved the ink – but I felt that adding carefully chosen colors could open up much more interesting and slightly unexpected combinations.
There was just one problem: I didn’t enjoy painting with a brush. So I swapped it for a palette knife – and then treated it rather badly. I carved scratches into it and damaged its surface on purpose, so that new lines, paths, and textures would appear while applying the paint. Instead of traditional brushstrokes, the paint is spread, scraped, and pushed into completely different structures.
At the time, I worked very sensitively with color and tried not to use more than two shades. Most of the gestures appear in circular or oval movements. Unlike my “paintings,” these sketches are not carefully constructed in advance. The stroke itself becomes the main actor – more spontaneous, more physical, and noticeably freer than in the paintings, where I plan the final composition much more precisely.
